In The Sounds of Shadows at Deichtorhallen Hamburg

Sarah van Rij’s exhibition In The Sounds of Shadows, at Deichtorhallen Hamburg is her first solo show in Germany.

The show brings together more than twenty works from the past seven years, revealing van Rij’s distinctive visual language: fragmentary yet evocative, mysterious yet deeply familiar.

Everyday objects such as martini glasses, flowers, and shoes drift through her images like echoes, while shadowy figures and reflections create cinematic, almost surreal narratives.

Curated in collaboration with Nadine Isabelle Henrich and Viktoria Weber, the exhibition highlights van Rij’s ability to transform ordinary moments into poetic and thought-provoking compositions.
